The National Pension System (NPS) is a government-backed pension programme that allows people to retire with a sizable corpus. The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), which oversees NPS, has recommended members to link their Aadhaar cards to their NPS accounts. The Government of India began the plan in 2004 to give benefits to government employees, which was expanded to include all citizens in 2009. A subscriber is only required to establish one NPS account and submit at least 6,000 per month. A NPS subscriber can take a portion of the cash in a lump payment and use the remainder to purchase an annuity, ensuring a monthly income after retirement.
