There are many government schemes in India that accept only Aadhaar Card as an Identity and Address document. But they have to authenticate the information present on your Aadhaar Card with UIDAI. UIDAI stores all the information related to your identity in the Central Identities Data Repository known CIDR. So, during the Aadhaar Authentication Process, institutions send the information provided by you on Aadhaar to CIDR for authentication. Then CIDR responds back either in Yes or No to the institution. This whole process is known as Aadhaar Authentication. The purpose of this authentication is to find out whether all the information given on the Aadhaar Card matches with CIDR data or not. If CIDR responds NO then the information mentioned on the Aadhaar is not authentic.
Need for Authenticating Aadhaar
Sometimes people hide their original details and present fake information to the Government Schemes to enjoy the benefits. It is not easy for institutions to authenticate documents online whether it is a passport or driving license. Therefore, UIDAI has given the facility to authenticate the Aadhaar Details online by sending them to CIDR. The CIDR matches the details sent by the institutions with the details it has in the database. After matching all the details it sends a reply either Yes or No. CIDR never discloses any information related to the Aadhaar Cardholder.
The process of Aadhaar Authentication completes when the CIDR responds. Therefore, now the fakeness of the Aadhaar Card can be determined through CIDR.
Types of Aadhaar Authentication
You can explore the types of authentication carried by institutions for an Aadhaar Card:-
Aadhaar Demographic Details Authentication
The details present on the Aadhaar Card like Name, Address, Gender, and Date of Birth are known as demographic details. So, if an institution sends these details to CIDR for authentication then it is known as Demographic Details Authentication. If there is any mismatch between the information provided by the institution and information in the CIDR database then it will not authenticate the details.
Aadhaar Biometric Authentication
While applying for an Aadhaar Card, you will have to go through Biometric Authentication. If you are taking a new mobile connection then you will have to give your fingerprints and Iris photo to the provider. Then he uses the information to authenticate with your Aadhaar information and this is known as Aadhaar Biometric Authentication.
Authentication through OTP
If you are linking any services or bank account to Aadhaar Card then you will have to go through OTP-Based Authentication. The Aadhaar Card is authenticated through an OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
Multiple Authentication
If you are using all the authentications together and verifying all the details of an Aadhaar then it is known as Multiple Authentication. The institution will make the biometric authentication and demographic Aadhaar Authentication together and it is called multi-factor authentication.
